A Few Tips on Antique Rug Looks

Love vintage or Persian rugs but unsure if you're making good style choices? Many of us want to put our own personal spin on a room, be it with an antique rug, a nice couch, or what have you. But let's be honest- most of us are not interior decorators. Here are just a couple of rules of thumb that might help guide you as you try to decide hoe to use antique rugs to bring a room to life.
Generally, (especially in a non-white-walled room) darker, earthy-toned rugs add warmth to a room, and can contribute a sense of intimacy even in a much larger room. Black rugs, however, tend not to do this.
Paler antique rugs somewhat do the opposite- they add an airiness to a room, helping to open up the space and make it seem larger.
Highly patterned or very complicated rugs can be great in areas that have a lot of foot traffic, pet hair, or general dirt and grime. The complicatedness of the rug will help mask any little messes or the visible evidence of wear and tear.
If you have any 'rustic' or 'country' themes in a room, a braided rug can really add to that look. If you're going ultra modern, or even just more contemporary, you'll want to stay away from these rugs, however.
Vintage rugs with bold or large patterns in geometric shapes will be more suited to a more updated look. If you're not sporting and old-timey feel in a room, or you're outright avante-garde, there's nothing like an area rug with strong shapes and definite lines.
