Kanye Weighs in on Persian Rugs
There are many kinds of rugs in the world, with many different patterns and motifs and color schemes. Any professional dealer could go into detail about what imagery exists out there, where some of the most iconic images came from, and what kind images are not allowed to be displayed according to Muslim laws.

Kanye West, it seems, is also a fan. He tweeted last spring about trying to get his hands on a very specific image on a specific kind of rug, and expressed dismayed that is somewhat ridiculous wishes could not be instantly granted:

"I specifically ordered Persian rugs with cherub imagery!!! What do I have to do to get a simple persian rug with cherub imagery uuuuugh"

This was tweeted to his almost four million followers on the social networking site twitter.com last year.

He probably doesn't realize what a non-sequitor that is. Obviously, a post like ""Boyfriends are like rush hour traffic... ALWAYS IN THE FUCKING WAY!" is not meant to be taken seriously, but also, trying to find cherubs on a Persian rug is a joke. Cherubs are Renaissance and Rococo European images, and certainly no ancient or antique rug maker would dream of putting the image of a human being on any art of his: most Persian rug makers are Muslim either by religion or by culture, and Muslims are forbidden form using the imagery of humans in their art. Let alone naked, winged babies, right?

Of course, this is from the man who tweeted "Black is the new black," so maybe this isn't just irreverence, but actually a social commentary on the rules of Muslim cultures. All the exclamation points make it seem very casual, and maybe it's just him being a dick but then again, he's a smart guy, this could actually be a very well-disguised poke at draconian religious laws. Who knows, with Kanye, right?
