Where To Put Your Antique Rug to Show it Off

If you've recently purchased or inherited an antique or Persian rug, or are in the market, you may be wondering just where in your home you should place your new piece of art. Here are a few suggestions for each possible location.
Old rugs in living rooms are a classic- they can help to pull together a classy color scheme, and they're great for protecting hardwood floors and adding a bit of charm. Make sure the rug isn't too big for the space, or it will overwhelm the room. Too small, and the rug gets overshadowed. Usually and 8x10 is a good rule of thumb, size-wise.
Who says you can't use an antique rug in a bedroom? They help keep your feet warm in the morning, and add a sense of coziness to the space. Keep in mind that usually you should use the rug to emphasize the bed, so at least one third of the bed should have rug under it, and the rug should extend at least two and half to three feet on either side of the bed.
Correctly shaped carpets can also be used i the hallway- in this case, you want the carpet to basically go wall-to-wall, with only about six extra inches on either side. It can help add interest, protection, and life to an otherwise rather boring area of your house.
Last but not least- dining rooms. Rugs in the dining room are classic, but you have to make sure your family isn't going to spill all over your antique carpet! Pick one that all of the chairs and the table will properly fit on, even when the chairs are pushed back.
